Why won't InteLex download?

Because the installation files are almost 20 MB, depending on the speed of your connection it will take a few seconds before InteLex will start to download. There is no problem, however, so you need only be patient.

Will InteLex run on my computer?

InteLex runs on Windows (98/2000/XP) and Macintosh (OS X).

Users have successfully run InteLex on Windows Me and NT, but they are no longer officially supported. There is also a current download for OS 9, but there will be no more in the future.

InteLex runs on Windows Vista, though the images on the toolbar do not appear. This is a known issue and is being addressed.

How do I install InteLex?

  1. Download the InteLex setup program to your computer
  2. On Windows and Mac OS X, double-click the setup program to install InteLex
  3. On Mac OS 9, drag the InteLex folder to your Applications folder
  4. Double-click the InteLex program icon to launch the application

How do I uninstall InteLex?

  • On Macintosh, simply delete the folder containing the InteLex program
  • On Windows, choose Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel and select InteLex from the list

Why can't I hear the vocabulary words pronounced?

You may not hear the audio for various reasons. The most common reasons are:
  • You do not have the audio files installed on your computer
  • Your computer does not have a soundcard
  • Your speaker volume is very low
  • Your speakers are not turned on

Why do no words show up when I try to make a selection?

If no matches are found in a basic selection, it is usually because there are no words at the Difficulty Setting you have chosen. Leave the Difficulty Setting blank, and your words should appear.

Why don't I see the foreign font properly?

If extra characters seem to show up in words, especially extra alephs and ayins, or if the foreign font simply does not display properly, then follow the below.

On Mac OS X, sometimes the font SPTiberian is not installed properly. To fix this:

  1. Search your machine for any files named SPTiberian or SPTiberi.ttf and delete them. (They need to be deleted from any font folders, but it's easiest to delete them all.) This will take care of any improperly installed fonts.
  2. Restart your computer to flush the memory
  3. Download a fresh copy of the font SPTiberian
  4. Copy the downloaded font to one of your Font folders to install it
  5. Run InteLex.
  6. From the Preferences window, make sure the Foreign Font is listed as SPTiberian
On Windows, sometimes the font has become corrupt. To fix this:
  1. Uninstall the font SPTiberian
  2. Download a fresh copy of the font SPTiberian
  3. Re-install the font SPTiberian

Windows asks which program to use to open the file. What do I do?

If you are using Mozilla Firefox, then when you download the setup file, the file name is truncated and all you see is the name "InteLex," and when you double-click the file, Windows asks you which program to use to open this file.

When Mozilla Firefox downloads a file, it does not properly handle file names with spaces and instead truncates everything after the first space. To tell Windows how to run setup, simply change the filename from "InteLex" to "InteLex.exe" -- and then double-click. Setup will run and InteLex will be installed.
